The lighter side of the Left 4 Dead zompocalypse

Sometimes the Hunter just *works*…

Although it takes a skilled player to recognise his potential. Many of you will have heard of Visceral, arguably the best Hunter player that has bothered to make himself well-known, but if you haven’t heard of this Dynamix teamer, there’s but one way you need to learn about him.

While it’s nice to see such skill with the Hunter, and he’s by far the most entertaining Infected to watch, I am very interested in seeing what Smoker and Boomer ‘experts’ of similar experience could pull off. That said, this was found on this SteamPowered thread. Props to Visceral for his skill and the video.

Visceral has several more videos on his YouTube Channel for any who are interested.

OH YAY! HORRIB>LY SHITTY DEATH METAL FTW. NEED MORE

In my ‘theory’ (as in I don’t actually know but with my knowledge this is how I see it) boomers and smokers simply don’t have as much “skill” as hunters. As in the way to play them is through sheer know how and knowledge of what to do when.

The “most impressive thing’ I see a boomer doing besides playing against an idiotic team is doing arced vomits through spots the survivors can’t see or get surprised because they didn’t know a boomer just spawned and instantly did a great arcing vomit or something.

For smokers I only see them knowing when to attack at the right moment at great spots where it’s a pain for the survivor to be in or to be saved…nothing more nothing less.

    Jumping off the skybox FTW

The hunter has the highest skill ceiling with his 25 damage pounces, bunnyhopping, uncharged pounces, insane wall to wall speed, etc.

Smokers are much more situational and require more coordination than hunters, being exceptionally good at a few spots on every map, forcing survivors to go out of their way to help their friend, incapping people at ledges, etc.

Boomers are just pretty much puke and watch. It would be far to hard to tell the difference between a good boom and a pro boom.

    @Shadowfox

Personally I think it’d be for the benefit of those who know how to play the game. Where a Hunter pounce looks impressive whenever you start looking at it, skilled Smoker and Boomer attacks require watching from the spawning to the attack itself. People who know how to play and are familiar with the tactics behind those classes will take much more away from watching the ‘life’ containing some great pulls/booms than the attacks by themselves.

Personally, while I like the Hunter videos Visceral’s made up to this point, it’s getting stale (and I agree with DoomGUy on the Music, it’s not to my taste), and I’d like to see some other compilations.

Don’t like the music? Turn the damn sound down. Not that hard.

  7.

i dunno about you guys, but i dont wanna be on the opposing team that this guy’s on.

that noted - i’d like to know how the heck he jumped so high in that bit at the no mercy finale.

  8.

the best player with hunter? hahahaa

try to play on more servers Visceral

  9.

Either way, I don’t think this is a show of skill. All he’s done in the first clip for examplr is rpobably spent half a round tryingto get up there, just so he could jump ( and he could’ve missed easily) and do 25 damage. Well done, but msybr, instead of jumping up to the roof of the hodpital, he couldvr found some other high polace to pounce of. SO yeah, hew fails. (LAptop keyboazrds suckm, btw)

I must admit, I’m curious to know how many times he totally misses those giant, multi-leap pounces. Either he’s got reflexes I couldn’t even imagine (there’s no way I could retain enough situational awareness after several of the twists or turns he takes in his crazy jumping-sprees and still manage to land on a target for a full 25 pounce. 1 wall-jump, yeah, 2–if I’m REALLY lucky, but with all the weird turns).

Also, am I the only one that thought the tank run in the video was far less effective than it could have been? He had two, TWO bashable objects and I saw several opportunities where he could have incapped with a single swing. It really almost felt like he was either lucky or I was missing some vital clue, because he took way less damage than he should have, as there was considerable time when all four Suvivors were virtually unmolested and hardly even pressured. I’ve seen tanks die for less.

  11.

My guess is that he misses a ton, although from the vid he looks like he’s gotten pretty good at steering the hunter midair.

Either way, when it comes down to be a good “player” I’d have to give him an “F” because he obviously has to ditch his infected teammates to find these spots, all for his own 25 pounce damage glory, not the overall success of the team. He leaves 3 infected to fight 4 humans, all for the occasionally sick pounce. You’d get more damage in if you wait til you get a good boom and attack the non-blinded, or wait for an isolated human, or pounce one at the top of a ladder.

IMHO, being a “good” hunter is more about stalking your prey and waiting for the opportunity to use the environment, the chaos, or your opponents mistakes to you advantage.

If he were on my team I’d vote to kick.

  12.

that smoker hunter combo is impressive

  13.

Thank you, That guy. Visceral is shit.

  14.

The lesson to take away from here is that Dead Air is an excellent hunter map, and that he is a very good harassing hunter, (the anoying ones that leap on you for pounce damage as you run) but in the end the smoker clips were far better because he was doing coordinated attacks properly.

  15.

You guys just don’t know Visceral and how he plays.

He hardly misses… if anything he only gets killed before landing on someone, he hardly ever misses his targets.

So to put it bluntly, if you don’t kill him midair, he’s GONNA hit you.

  16.

    @ DoomGuy & That Guy

You guys clearly know nothing about gameplay. It’s not always about TEAM attacks in this game. Sometimes a chunk of health is necessary if you paid attention to the video. I played with him in most of that video (shinespiked is my name) and we ended up beating that team all 5 rounds.

So don’t even talk shit if you don’t know him or know how to back it up you pansy.

  17.

    Wow, quite impressive.

Now time to actually try to do a wall jump :3

  18.

Even if you were just going for the 25s, any person with common sense would say, “Hmm. Climbing the way up to the skybox is cool and all, but wouldn’t I get the same damage if I were just to go up to the rooftops, which takes only 2 secs?” This person, I guarantee you would get more damage than visceral.

  19.

So you’re telling me that you can easily 25 somebody in the finale without using skyboxes? Your chances are very slim if you can.

  20.

You don’t need to 25 people. And if you ARE going t do it, don’t spend ages trying to jump from a glitch to land on someone when there is many other areas to choose from.

  21.

Being a hunter looks much easier while you’re playing in 3rd person. CURSE MY 360 VERSION OF THE GAME!

  22.

Hello? Is anyone there? Has Boomercharged shut down? Jesus!

Damn spies sappin’ my Left 4 Dead!

  23.

@Sharke12: Maybe we authors got tired of comments saying how bad our article was, and then ones saying how we never post, even though there are things to talk about, but we already have posted them in the forums and discussed them…

  24.

Ah. Thank you kindly sir Paper Shadow. Would you please point me in the direction of one or more said forums?

  25.

I know that somewhere there’s a function for people to delete comments. Why doesn’t it get used? That way, you can just delete comments when all they’re saying is that you might have possibly spelled obfuscate wrong.

  26.

    @ CertainlyNotSirMax:
No, it’s not. All he did was steal a kill. The smoker had it won, by the time the hunter leaped in, the survivor was dangling a hundred feet up, out of the range of anyone else. All he did was steal the kill.

  27.

Acefighter, the Hunter did two things:

    - He killed the Survivor instantly, saving time.
    - He freed up the Smoker to both hide and recharge his tongue, saving his life and possibly netting a second (maybe game-saving) pull.

  28.

He’s released two more videos since this one. You should post them up, General Balls.

Both are very entertaining as usual and they are epic to say the least.

I really enjoy playing with him, too. All around good guy and friend.
