This is one of the major problems with Left 4 Dead, that no one seems to talk about. That text is there for a reason above those little evil outlined switches of power which your grubby little 3 dimensional hands reach out for, even dropping there weapon in anticipation for there deal with the devil (Read: AI Director) to sell out your teammates.

At the slight tap of the E key your way of escape arrives, at a slow creaking speed, and with a scream from the depths, the horde is upon you. No one seems to realize being ready means that your teammates should be ready too. Especially when they are still trying to get ready, catch up to you, healing, reloading and such.
Throwing the switch while your teammates aren’t ready is almost exactly like shooting the cars and running in a serious game. You leave your teammates to the horde, in a teamwork based game. It’s just not right. Think of the children!
Think of the Bills. THINK OF THE PEELS!
I understand, it’s tempting. Especially with levels like No Mercy 3 where you can start the lift, it’ll take you up instantly and you can run into the building. But even then you leave your teammates with the horde, and even if you manage to escape, you’ll most likely be pounced or smoked. And most likely vote kicked later in the game if your team is mad enough.
ALTERNATIVELY: “bind YOURKEYHERE vocalize PlayerAskReady” in console. Rereadreareadyrereadready?
Try to check and double check with your team. A simple “Ready, guys?” is good. It’s simple and easy to respond too. You don’t have a mic? You’ve got text, and a radial menu. Push X, and just let go. Spam it if you have too.
Remember, It could save your life.
