The lighter side of the Left 4 Dead zompocalypse

Left 4k Dead

This is super awesome. Left 4k Dead. It’s a 4kb Java applet top-down zombie shooter game.

It was made by Markus Persson as part of the 2009 Java4K competition. There is some really good stuff there. You should go and check it out.

That’s 4 kilobytes. I’ve written blog posts bigger than that. Plus it’s in Java, a programming language not exactly renowned for it’s conciseness… It’s all reminiscent of the old-school demo scene - which was also super awesome.

Markus also did Miners4k as part of the 2006 Java4k competition. You should check that out as well, it’s an amazingly fun Lemmings clone. I spent hours playing that one a few years back.

    Wow…

I lost my mind. This is brilliant.

I also lost in the first 30 seconds.

This thing is only 4k and it’s everything a zombie game should be.

Am I the only one who got an adrenalin rush from this?

  3.

WOW! That was actually really fun… and hard! xD

This is pretty thrilling… it’s an amazing achievement given the tech restraints. Running backwards shooting zombies on 1hp on this is just as fun (and usually short-lived) as in L4D Expert difficulty, and the ‘pistols’ option instead of reloading is a very clever design technique, because you have to reload eventually to stop the tide, but the zombies just keep on coming…

    Awesome stuff.

    This is quite epic.

that played hell with my nerves more than it should have… I liked the light effects.

    My high score is 1500

That is demonically hard, but still good, cheers for the link.

Odd, I saw this link on neoseeker.com (I think) yesterday and played it, then I come to boomercharged and see it! Anyways, the creator is a genius. The only thing missing is sound, but that’s expecting way too much from a 4k game :D
