The lighter side of the Left 4 Dead zompocalypse

Left 4 Half-Life

While browsing through Youtube, I found an interesting map you may know…

Unlike the Dustbowl map, this one you can play! There is a server set up for folks to play Half-Life 2: Episode 1 with more zombies. If you want to join on this bandwagon of fun, follow these simple steps! (shamelessly taken from the Steam forums)

  1. Get yourself Left 4 Dead and GCFScape. GCFScape is basically just WinRAR for Valve content files.
  2. Start up GCFScape and go into your Steam folder.
  3. Open /steam/steamapps/source materials.gcf and extract the contents of /hl2/materials/ to
    steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead demo/hl2/materials
  4. Open /steam/steamapps/source models.gcf and extract the contents of /hl2/models/ to steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead demo/hl2/models
  5. Open /steam/steamapps/episode 1 shared.gcf and extract the contents of /episodic/ to steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead demo/hl2/
  6. Open /steam/steamapps/half-life 2 episode one.gcf and extract the contents of /episodic/maps to
    steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead demo/left4dead/maps

And again, welcome to City 17.

I think Episode Two would suit zombies quite well. Expansive woodlands, isolated villages, plenty of interesting spots to defend. Would require a lot of running though :)

OH. MY. GOD. I NEED to do this.

The person who recorded this demo is not the most skilled player I’ve seen. :)

It seems really cool, but I wouldn’t bother with it since the game’s maps weren’t created in mind for this kind of gameplay.
